Description
The rhizomes are about 10-12 cm long and 3-4 cm thick. They have a spicy aroma and pungent taste.

Origin

It is a native of Java and Malaya.

Uses

The immature lateral shoots and unopened flower buds are steamed and eaten. Slices of the young rhizomes are added to side dishes and curries; the rhizome is too 'hot' to be eaten raw.
